Our very first litter of baby rabbits first appeared at night. Here they are feeding on crops grown with the new water supply.
Our first litter has arrived. A great surprise – rabbits hide their young very carefully, our delightful litter can be seen in this photo. And now Reynold, with another keen villager, has been invited to spend a couple of days as guests at Gwango near Hwange Lodge to train in rabbit-rearing methods.
Elizabeth Pasalk and her team have 10 years of experience in the humane raising of rabbits as a reliable food source. Like us, she is strongly opposed to commercial methods of rabbit rearing in small wire cages. She will advise on all aspects of rearing to ensure rabbits are healthy, happy, and safe from predators. Elizabeth is taking an active interest in our diversification projects, and we are immensely grateful for her and her team’s support.
During their stay, the villagers will also learn about other diversification alternatives. VFA is funding their travel costs, and they are being accommodated at the Lodge at no cost.
