Water is Life – New Water – New Projects – Food Security

Our fantastic new borehole has brought water to taps near homesteads. This now facilitates the planting of new plots within protected homestead fencing. Our images show kale and maize growing well, as villagers can water them regularly using the new water. This will ensure food security through growing basic nutritional crops. Additionally, the water now allows us to begin our mushroom project. This project needs water from misters to keep temperatures down and create clean areas for the growing of button and oyster mushrooms. Feet need to be sanitised before entering the building, and hands and surfaces need to be kept clean.  This would not have been easy before water was nearby.

Our rabbit rearing project can now expand as we have new rabbits and pregnant does. Without fresh water, this would not be possible. The rabbit project is sustainable but needs funding to build new housing as we expand and extend it to additional homesteads, creating a source of sustainable, healthy meat where little is currently available. Food security is paramount.

Water opening ceremony North side. Music to celebrate having water on tap. No longer having to spend hours trying to fill containers from a failing source.

Nutrition garden ‘amaizing’ video. Maize, a staple crop can be grown to ensure food security now water is available nearby. Here we see cobs growing well. Two years ago all they had were devastated crops and no water.

OUR MISSION

To change and empower the lives of villagers while also addressing the human, wildlife, climatic challenges and conflicts in this open nature reserve.
