BOREHOLE CAMPAIGN COMPLETED August 2025

5,000 litre JOJO water tank and workmen

_____________________________

Village BH29, North Western Zimbabwe endured the worst conditions in the area. PHASE 2: water storage and installation provides water for crops, stock, and people in BH29. The borehole is solar-powered.

The installation brings water half a km uphill on either side of the valley to two holding tanks of 5000 litres (one either side) and onwards to a system of taps, in addition to a new tank in the valley.  This frees the women and children of the village from the daily tasks of pumping and carrying uphill (on their heads) 20 litres minimum of water per person, to their homesteads. Some homesteads have 9+ inhabitants. Now that water is close to homesteads, initiatives allowing diversification and economic security will be developed.

Emergency FoodAid Campaign | Suspended

This Campaign is currently PAUSED, owing to temporary relief from drought.

The state of emergency following 2024’s failure of the annual rains had a severe impact on BH29 and surrounding villages. All crops were destroyed. There was NO HARVEST. There was no animal feed. VFA monthly sustained 23 vulnerable villagers with cornmeal, protein beans, oil, and sugar, costing £12 per villager. Numbers of villagers then in desperate need doubled as food stores ran out. We made 13 food aid deliveries to support the village through this emergency.

Despite this Campaign currently being suspended, drought is a continuing emergency in Africa, so any reserves we can accumulate in advance will be gratefully held in trust.
