Queen Silibaziso thanks VFA for the 2nd Food Aid Shipment

Supplies List for Vulnerable members of Village BH29:

What do supplies do individuals receive per month?

  • 10kg Roller Meal US $6.00 [Official Zimbabwe currency US$ to counter runaway inflation]
  • 2 kg Sugar US$ 3.50;
  • 500g dried Sugar Beans US$1.00;
  • 750ml cooking oil US$1.50

How are vulnerable village members of BH29 identified?

  • Our Zim-based trustees Queen Silibaziso Mlotshwa and Happiness Thabani Mnkandla, with our Zimbabwe-based team members initially identified 23 vulnerable village members.
  • Criteria:
    • orphans and
    • those unable to work through disability/unemployment/age/illness

Is the number of vulnerable people stable?

  • Since the first two shipments, we understand that the need is now over 60 vulnerable people owing to worsening circumstances. However we currently are at our fiscal limits, and we believe that even these tiny supplies for 23 that we have shipped are now shared in a roster system for double that amount. We need to find more donations to help meet this life-threatening situation. [8 Jul 2024]

VFA monthly sustains 23 vulnerable villagers with cornmeal, protein beans, oil, and sugar, costing £12 per villager. Numbers of villagers now in desperate need have doubled as food stores run out. After 5 VFA food aid drops, we aim to continue with our support and fundraising indefinitely.

The situation is life-threatening.

Background: EMERGENCY FOOD AID for VILLAGE BH29

As of March 2024 Western Zimbabwe’s annual rainy season has failed and the villagers’ crops have been destroyed.

On 3 April 2024, Zimbabwe’s President Emmerson Mnangagwa said “the country needs $2bn of aid as severe dry spell caused by El Niño afflicts southern Africa.”

BH29 is being supported by monthly food supplies funded by VFA and distributed by our team, led by Queen Silibaziso.

VFA have also initiated a series of local actions in order to raise internal support from the Zimbabwe population.

VFA have sourced a locally-supplied monthly food pack for the most vulnerable members of BH29 who are then able to send their children to school with full bellies and overcome the potential starvation resulting from failure of the rains.
