hasVillage BH29, North Western Zimbabwe has endures the worst conditions in the area.
PHASE 2 & 3: An integrated water initiative, a borehole, water storage and outlets, and security fencing now provide water for crops, stock, and people in BH29. The borehole is solar-powered.
The villagers are very excited to have a dependable water supply which will allow the transformation of their lives and their village.
Two digging teams dug 1 metre deep trenches to carry the water in pipes ½ a km uphill to two 5000 litre Jojo containers close to homesteads. Villagers are using taps instead of making numerous trips daily, carrying water in buckets on their heads.
The villagers’ team has also constructed the protective security fencing around the installation.
Thank you to our generous donors for allowing VFA to save lives and restore and lay the foundations for developing this village towards a sustainable future.
Background:WATER & BOREHOLE in VILLAGE BH29
The village water supply in BH29 historically relied on one functioning borehole (as of Nov. 2023) with a heavy manual pumping system requiring two people to operate. Repairs took approximately a month to complete, causing delays in accessing clean water. The current storage system allows for water degradation and potential bacterial contamination.
The old borehole frequently ran dry, affecting not only the villagers’ access to drinking water but also their ability to water their crops, resulting in potential starvation and loss of income.
This situation was exacerbated by an outbreak of cholera in the region, highlighting the urgent need for improved water infrastructure to ensure the health and livelihood of the villagers.
"Your commitment to driving positive change has made a significant impact, and we are truly grateful for your dedication.. We look forward to witnessing the continued growth and success of this initiative…Thank you once again for your kindness, support and investing in the well-being of our community” – Dec 2023
